Meeting Mr. Sulu

The Soundwave Crew has had some very high profile engagements: Fergie, Wyclef Jean, Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, and even the Jonas Brothers.  But sometimes, we just get lucky and meet a someone really special.  Such was the case recently when we were brought in for a concert at the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts.

The concert we were hired for was later in the evening, but we had to set up early in the afternoon.  While we were setting up, the Naples Philharmonic was rehearsing for a series of concerts they were performing later in the week.  The concerts were called a Sci-fi Spectacular featuring the music of John Williams, and narration was by Star Trek’s Mr. Sulu, George Takei!

And we asked ourselves…How often do you get to actually meet a pop culture icon?  After Mr. Takei’s portion of the rehearsal was finished, as he was leaving the venue, the Soundwave Crew asked if he would allow us a few pictures, and he graciously accepted!  Having grown up watching Star Trek (the original series) and the movies through the years, this was a real honor.

For a Sci-fi geek like me, meeting one the original crew of one of the most iconic television shows and movies in pop culture was just awesome! I was TOTALLY geeking out! – John Donahue, New Media Specialist and A/V Tech

Not all celebrities are as polite, genuine, and supportive as Mr. Takei was and it was truly our pleasure and honor to have meet you.  May you live love and prosper! (Sorry, our web guy couldn’t help it… )
